The history of the main church construction is close related to the name of Takó János, who was vicar for 27 years between 1888 and 1915 in Ditró. The first project of the church building was made in 1893 by engineer Gabor Margitay, on which we can observe a neo-baroque style. In 1893, the Supervisory Committee has rejected the plan because of the great cost. After a long preparation, precise surveys and the settlement of the building fundament, the construction could begin in 1909. The church was built between 1908-1913 based on the projects plans of István Kiss, academic professor and architect. By 1913, thanks to thorough elaborations, the church is completed. The exterior of the church needed two years of work, so it was completed in the summer of 1911.

The two towered, neo-gothic Basilica’s dimensions are 56 m length, 23 m width, 75 m height of tower and it is able to take in 3,000 people, if crammed in even 5,000 people. kilincs The ceiling of the church is domed, held by huge pillars and the bow-members are decorative elements as well. On the window-glass can be recognized the Gothic style. The sanctuary also represents a significant value. Its whole surface is painted and decorated with figural composition made by secco technique. The wooden parts of the furniture, the pulpit, the altar, the four confessional seats, the singing-loft, the doors and the benches are made of hard oak. The Gothic confessionals costed 1500 crowns/piece. művésze. The church’s organ was built by the firm Rieger for 18,000 crowns. The 25 register pneumatic system organ has two manual keyboard lines. The four bells were made by Walser Company in Budapest. During the First World War a big bell and two small bells were taken, but the church csillarhas not been harmed. The sanctuary and the colorful windows of the nave portray the 12 apostles and values 45,000 crowns. The high altar is decorated with statues carved from Carrara marble. These statues represent the Holy Heart of Jesus, St. Stephen and St. Ladislaus. An outstanding value is represented by the sizable three forged iron chandelier hanging from the nave ceiling. The monumental construction finally costed 800,000 crowns. The great church was consecrated on 13th of July, 1913 by the Transylvanian Catholic Bishop, Count Majláth Gusztáv Károly in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The side-altars are the work of László Szánthó sculptor from Timisoara and were completed only in 1938. They costed about 300.000 lei, out of which 150,000 from the Community, while the other half of the amount has been put together from donations (Historia Domus II. 56th). The main celebration is on the day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The good acoustics of the church makes it suitable for various musical events and also organ and choir concerts.
